Here at the YMCA, we build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. Community Recreation focuses on building and offering regular community events and classes. Some of these events include our annual Carols by Candlelight. We always endeavor to provide families and communities with these events and classes at a very low or no cost at all. We rely strongly on funding from other community and local organizations. We could not run these things without the support of these places.
Another strong running program we offer is Falls Prevention. This is funded solely by Otago Age Concern, which allows us to deliver classes to the elderly at a very low cost. We run classes both at the YMCA, and in other community places such as Rest Homes, and South City Community House.
We do not make a profit from any of our Community Recreation programs.
It is very rewarding for the YMCA to be able to provide our Community with these events and make a small difference to people in some way.
